it's a known bug in the 2.3.6 firmware
a temporary fix can be found here : http://trac.fonosfera.org/fon-ng/ticket/620#comment:1
please test it out and report back so it can be included in 2.3.7

are you able to connect via the GUI?

try user : root
password : the same as you use on the GUI
try user : fonero
password : the same as you use on the gui

disclaimer : there is no "backdoor" user on a fonbox

did you access the gui when you flashed developer firmware?
perhaps you should reset the password first via the gui? or explicelly enable ssh
or perhaps you chose a not so complex/difficult password.... "1234" is not a good password and would decline any ssh access

So should you only update this infomation at fon.com and not on the fonera box?

both locations should work
but if you do it on the box...then fon.com won't know this and will not show the localised name in the logging pages

Hi,

Followed steps and upgrade thinclient from 669 ticket.
I'm able now of changing SSID of my wlan from fon web. However the speed limit doesn't work, I have try some values from fon page but when i do a speedtest it gets the max throughput when connected to my fon_free wlan.
I don't know if related, but my hotspot is marked as disconnected on maps.fon.com. Seems as some data is not being sent correctly between fon and my fonera.

I have last 2.3.6.1 developer firmware.

Is there any way to limit directly on the fonera?

Thanks

I think this is the same issue that was reported at ticket #949. Any updates or extra details should be posted there.

Running the latest BETA I am getting this old problem again with the public and private WiFi offering the same speed :(

I have set it to 512K on the fon.com admin page but it makes no difference :(

It seems there are some issues with this at the server side, updates don't always make it through, or they take hours or days sometimes.

A bug with one of the FON servers has just been fixed, so I hope this will improve matters (though the process will not be sped up by this).

I also found a bug in the 2.3.7.0 beta1 and beta2 firmwares, that prevented any configuration changes from getting through. This will be fixed for beta3.

Finally, I did a bit of digging into how this limiting actually works. If you're comfortable with using SSH, you can edit /etc/config/qos on your Fonera, search for the "hotspot" section and set "enabled" to 1 and change the "upload" and "download" values to what you want (in Kbit/s). Alternatively, run these commands:

Code: Select all
uci set qos.hotspot.enabled=1
uci set qos.hotspot.upload=16
uci set qos.hotspot.download=512
uci commit qos

Afterwards, reboot to let the changes take effect (using the qos-stop and qos-start scripts or /etc/init.d/qos won't work, it'll break your public signal).

One more important thing: The "upload" value really refers to the download limit, and vice versa. This is because the configuration names are from the Fonera's perspective (so "upload" is "upload from the Fonera to the hotspot network", which is "download" from the wifi client's perspective).
