I was reading back in 2006 about the so call fon downloader which was a fon router that has usb and can download bt file to usb hard drive. this type of thing would be very usefull to me and what to know when this will be outl. I know you can buy router that can do this but I what to stop with fon as it take me a long time to get a fon router for less then £10 and I like fon and what to help it and also what to save power by not using a computer to download..

as of now I use my laptop which is a divx and other codec movie/ tvshow player for my tv and also downloader for file as it low power being a laptop. so I only use main computer for internet and gameing

Pics of the 2.0 La Fonera router, known as "The Fon Liberator" (gag) showed up in early June of this year: http://elfonblog.fondoo.net/?p=83 <-check back if the blog isn't up... we're down for maintenance.

However, I have heard nothing about it since, other than that it's cost is expected to approach $100.

Fon is still trying to sell off all of the original 1.x models which are rebranded Accton routers... it would suprise me if 2.0 suddenly went into production. It has a neat gimmick, but really, wouldn't it be better to use a real Ethernet wired PC/laptop for bittorrent, and not choke up the wifi and the router's little processor with the traffic? :(

Instead of depending on an USB drive, Fon should upgrade the La Fonera 1.x to include that bittorrent client, and also an SMB client so that it can use a networked hard drive instead. A USB flash drive will wear out quickly under all that activity, and a USB-connected hard drive will tether the router and prevent it from being mounted up high or outside.

If Fon does not go titsup, they would eventually release the LF2 and LF 802.11n devices without any advance warning. I suppose they're sitting on a mountain of unsold 1.0 and 1.5 models, and wish to get rid of them first.

As I wrote at the end of my blog article, Fon may have rediscovered the Osbourne Effect when they talked about future editions of their proprietary La Fonera.

"maybe by the beginning of 2008"... "The Fonera that is the dream of the Bills, or the Linuses who are passionate about WIFI, or the Bills who just want to make a lot of money..." -Martin

Fon is way behind in issuing the 2.0, but I have a sneaking suspicion that news about a La Fonera N model will pop up soon.
