My FONERA has been off line for a very long time and now the FONERA is back on line and resited in the roof to give a wide coverage. Those poor folk in traffic jams outside my house can while away the hours. I have kept Linus status, largely because collecting the odd 5c is meaningless to me.

For a long time I had grave security concerns, and VirginMedia were also very iffy about FON. I now see that firmware versions have moved on considerably and I am really impressed by FON and coverage, though I am a little sceptical that many of the BT customers 'play ball'.

I don't expect FON to give me back roaming for a while as my FONERA was getting very dusty on the shelf, but one day it would be nice to have that back. Meanwhile I use Vodafone - pricey but ok.

My main gripe on the FON maps is that it does not seem to easily distinguish FONERA Linus, FONERA Bills and truly shared BT FON rather than every BT AP. Perhaps I do not understand the maps.

Anyway - welcome back folks
(kewfriend)

By all means, do expect. That is the deal. You've bought Fon's merchandise, and you maintain a Fon hotspot for them. If they haven't enabled your free roaming, you are entitled to rattle their cage to fix it.

Please check http://wiki.fon.com/wiki/Roaming#How_ca ... es_back.3F

"How can get my roaming privileges back?

This is really easy just reconnect your La Fonera router and make sure it's shown as online in your MyFON (go through this checklist). Once your La Fonera is active again, after a couple of days your roaming privileges will be restored."

there is no difference between a FON Linus and a FON Bill;
you should be able to connect to both

Thanks everyone

Much to my surprise I'm back in the Fon-World with roaming already.

I've noticed just one small oddity. When I log into MySpace with my little Asus Linux EeePC, I find that it cannot remember the '10' subnet but always defaults to the '168' subnet but when I redo the full WiFi hunt and retype in the WPA, bingo - in I go. I'm puzzled why the Asus box does that with the Fonera.

One final question, if anyone can answer, is it possible to filter the FonMaps to focus on Foneras rather than all BT Fons as well?

Kew

Kew

Yeah don't focus on the UK?

you can use Google Earth and maps.francofon.fr
there you can filter only fonspots , no btfonspots, active only.... for UK
export to KML

and then import into google earth
et voila!
