Hi,

On my Fonera 2.0n I have connected an EXT3 formatted USB hard Drive.
I want to connect to this share with 3 Devices:

1. Laptop - Wireless (\\ipaddressfonera\Media) -->Works
2. Desktop - Ethernet port (\\ipaddressfonera\Media) -->Works
3. WD TV Live HD Mediaplayer --> NOT WORKING
When I browse in my WDTV Live to the list of Network Shares I can see 3 Devices:
-LAPTOP-->I can access by logging in as a user on device
-Desktop-->I can access by logging in as a user on device
-LAFONERA-->I can Login but WDTV Live gives the following error: There is no media in current folder!
Which Folder is it looking for then?

Greetzzz,

Gerben

this is not a Fon error but an erroneous configuration of your WD TV Live!
* Please deselect "auto play" in your Wd TV Live settings
and if possible
* Please install the newest firmware on your WD TV which will improve the error message:

From the changelog:
* Changed error message from “Folder could not be accessed” to “Auto Play content could not be accessed” when Auto Play is on and there is no playable content on the root of the drive

there is no "autorun" in the \media or the \disc-A1 folder of your fonera share :-)
so I guess you have to use a "select" button and not a "play" button
it can't play folders... only files... and if there is no autorun in that folder..it doesn't know what to play
what explains the error

I just checked my WD TV live and Autoplay is already OFF
And the latest drivers are installed

I can connect with my WD TV live to a Network Share on my computer I can browse through folders and select media files to play.

By the way, is it normal that the data transfer speed to and from the Disc-A1 is slower than between 2 PC's?

you are comparing "usb"(480Mbit/100mbit) transfer with "sata" discs (3gigabit)...
apple & pear...

and you are using SAMBA to connect WD TV Live with your Fonera right?
or are you using uShare?

No I don't compare this way:

Setup:

Fonera 2.0n with WD500GB usb hard disk (EXT3 formatted)
PC=wired 10/100bit to FONERA2.0n
LAPTOP=wireless-n (poor connection though probably the Intel WIFI link 5100AGN) to FONERA2.0n
WD TV Live=wireless-n Linksys WUSB600N v2 (only v1 is supported and i stupidly bought v2 but it seems to work) adapter to FONERA2.0n

From Laptop wireless to PC = faster then from Laptop wireless to WD500GB usb hard disk

I don't know if I use Samba or Ushare? Where can i find Samba then? (Fonera not in developers mode)
I use Windows Network Shares (\\ip.fonera\Media) is that Ushare?

How can I add a device to the compatibility list then?

steps to Add in WD TV live the Network Share from a Fonera 2.0n USB disk :

1. On your Fonera 2.0n-->Settings-->Filesserver-->turn on both FTP and Windows Network Shares
2. In the Settings-->Firewall-->Applications-->enable FTP & Windows Network
3. In your WD TV Live turn off AUTOPLAY
4. In your WD TV Live browse to Network Shares-->LAFONERA-->Login as user: : fonero, password: admin or your own

Greetzzz,

Gerben

Thanx man,

you already did it for me! Great

Now this way you can browse Network Shared folders and run Media files of a FONERA 2.0n attached USB Disk.
I Tested a DVD ISO format Movie and this works!
But in the WD TV Live is it also possible to select available Media Servers.
However the WD TV Live does not see the FONERA 2.0n as a Media Server but only as a Network Share.

Is it possible to configure samba as a media server on the USB disk (EXT3 formatted)?
(e.g. I can see "Play-on" Media Server that is installed on a local machine on the WD TV Live as a Media Server)

Greetzzz,

Gerben

Do you have "ushare" under settings on your Fonera?
It's something new in firmware 2.3 (rc1) on both Fonera 2.0g and 2.0n
it should make your fonera a "mediaserver" that talks over HTTP instead of samba/ftp which is more performant for eg HDTV streams... (doesn't require caching of 4mbyte locally on the frontend decoder as far as I understand, which makes starting the play of a movie faster)

No I don't see Ushare on my FONERA 2.0n (2.3.0.0) strange?
I am not in Developers mode (is that maybe the issue?)

Can somebody tell me where to find USHARE in the Fonera 2.0n?
Firmware Version: 2.3.0.0, Release Candidate: 4
