Hello,

Accessing the wi-fi of the Fon router using my N95 its always problematic to the point where it fails pretty much every time. That is, it fails to give an IP to the phone and therefor i cannot get online.

If I however use some other wi-fi router either at work, or one of the other i got at home from several other brands, SiteCom, Dlink, Linksys, Cisco, noname, it works 100% on all of them.

So the problem, after testing it, be determined to be with the fon router.

Does anyone experienced a similar problem and knows a work-around or is there some patch I can apply someway?

Some help is appreciated.
thanks in advance.

Are you using Fon's Symbian Connection Manager? You could also try Devicescape, HandyWi, and FONy. Read more about Devicescape in my recent blog entry: http://elfonblog.fondoo.net/?p=98

Then click on the blog header to go to the main page; on the right sidebar is a section titled "VOIP Handset and PC Connection Managers" with links to their software. 8)

Ok, you need to disable your device's wifi power save/sleep modes. The Fon hotspot created by a La Fonera will repeatedly signal that it is going to sleep, and then waking up again. This makes some devices lose sync.

I was indeed telling you to change it in the Nokia's settings.

However, you can fix the problem by installing the FreeWLAN extensions for La Fonera, and disabling (not hiding) the Private SSID. You will continue to enjoy a Fon hotspot, and the wifi signal will be stable again.

La Fonera only has one transceiver. In order to make two SSIDs, it must:

-(transmit public SSID)-(signal sleep)-(signal wake up)-(transmit private SSID)-(signal sleep)-(signal wake up)-(transmit public SSID)-

...and so on. With one of the SSIDs disabled, it is just an ordinary wifi AP. 8)

-(transmit public SSID)-(transmit public SSID)-(transmit public SSID)-

thanks for everything. i'll keep an eye on the free wlan project when they got something that can be used with the latest
firmware.

Disconnect the Internet connection to it, and then hold down the reset button for 30 seconds. Let it boot up again, and connect to the private network. It may revert to a compatible version. Even so, you can still flash the desired firmware aboard using TFTP or YMODEM over the serial console or TELNET. 8)

FreeWLAN will keep your router up to date, since they will push a new version of the plugin whenever Fon changes the regular firmware, to keep your router's features up to date. 8)
