I don't know who locked it, it's unlocked now. Previously when these were locked it was threads that I viewed on my blackberry and when I exited they locked.

now it's locked again, without an explanation....

Who is trying to keep the 15 minutes insecurity debate locked?
It can't be the blackberry. It's the same strange answer like Martin Varsavsky reaction to all the bad company news in germany: Which law in the UK forces FON to implement a VPN network finally (which would be very nice)?

You forget the the people of FON standing in the second line never show their face - so i don't think the will "like" your very useful modification for the board's administration (CSI Board admin?).

I think this was accidental. I know I had done this a few times previously. It seems when I view the board on my blackberry through the "view posts since last visit" it would lock the post when I exited. I think someone else may be having the same issue.

Ross, check the logs in your PHPBB admin panel. Then you should be able to see who locked it, and when.

You should ask someone to install the Junior admin PHPBB mod onto boards.fon.com so you will be able to see these logs.

And don't forget to pat yourself on the back and talk about how you're a "transparent and open" company, while stonewalling people's questions about membership churn, network insecurity, legality, and the fact that the "open source" firmware (at the time) was still being withheld.

FON's initial response was to close down the bulletin board thread, but it appears that during the night, this decision was reversed. It is now being described as "accidental" by employees of the network.

I would consider sueing RIM for producing a phpbb thread locking blackberry

Wow, this site presents itself as "news". One of the first things they teach you in Journalism school is to get both sides of a story. Not impressed with this writer.

Where is the official "other" side of the story? I found just some (not very sophisticated) comments by M.V. and some (incceptable) comments by the german fon blog author.

I guess a good official statement about the topic would help to have a good discussion. If there is none, you should not blame others that they dont publish one.

The author wrote that the boards were locked, then we claimed it was an accident. The boards were not locked, one topic was briefly locked, and immediately unlocked when I was notified of it. Who did the author contact for comment?

Maybe they wrote to support@fon.com, and got a ticket with the 'please wait in line' response. Alternatively, they could have tried this form:

http://www.fon.com/en/support/contact

filled it in, never to hear from anyone again. Or, they could have tried to join this forum, only to have their request held in moderation for who knows how long. Contacting Fon is much harder than you'd think.

A reporter who does not see a nice shiny email like "press@fon.com" (or any email for that matter) is not going to bother. They are probably going to believe that the company does not want to be disturbed by the press for comments, if they don't provide them with easy, direct, and responsive access. A reporter cannot hold his story for days or weeks either, waiting for a response from some automated system or a web form.

John

LOL, I was going to crack a joke just like this one when I read the previous post, and then laughed out loud when you got here first!

If they had tried to contact us and we didn't respond I would expect them to indicate that, it's standard practice.
